ArmInfo. Yerevan celebrated 99th anniversary of foundation of Czech Republic. At the solemn reception on the occasion of the national holiday of the country, Czech Ambassador to Armenia Petr Mikiska noted that this event paid tribute to the laying of the foundations of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918, as well as the memory of St. Wenceslas, who died in 935.
Czechoslovakia does not exist last 24 years, nevertheless we still care about first independent state after 300 years of subjugation and celebrate its creation. Today?s Czech Republic is a modern state, member of the European Union and NATO, ready for cooperation with all peaceful countries of the world. One of these countries united with us with friendly ties is Armenia. Since the last year?s National Day we continued to develop our political relations with visits of the Speaker of the Senate to Armenia and Armenian Ministers of Healthcare and Justice and Deputy Speaker of National Assembly to Prague,"said the Ambassador and in this context added that Prague will promote programs for cultural exchange and contacts between people.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that mutual contacts contribute to the further development of democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights, and a market economy in Armenia. "We gladly helped the Armenian government, as well as all democratic forces and civil society on the way of parliamentary elections, because we know that democratic Armenia is and will be a key player in the South Caucasus and in a broader regional context," the Ambassador said.
October 28 in the Czech Republic is celebrated a holiday - the day of statehood, or the day of the formation of Czechoslovakia, in the people it is also called the Day of St. Wenceslas. So on October 28, 1918, it was on Wenceslas Square in Prague that the independence of Czechoslovakia was officially proclaimed, and a new history for the people of the former Austrian-Hungarian Empire began. Thus, the Czech people waited for their own state only after 300 years of Austrian domination.
