ArmInfo. Armenia is under the influence of Russia's aggressive actions. This opinion was expressed in the interview to the Armenian Service of the Voice of America by Congressman Jackie SpeierKanchelyan, on whose initiative this evening a representative delegation of United States congressmen visited Armenia.
According to Kanchelyan, probably, this is the biggest visit of the delegation of congressmen to independent democratic Armenia. At the same time, as the congressman noted, the agenda of the visit is so full that it does not represent how in a few days they will manage to do everything. "First and foremost, we want to strengthen our friendship, help Armenia shake off the corrupt manifestations remaining from the Soviet era, create new opportunities to support democracy in Armenia, I would like Armenia to receive more assistance, since we view Armenia as our partner in the region, which is under the aggressive influence of Moscow, "she said. US lawmakers are planning to discuss with Armenia the issue of strengthening Armenia's energy independence, since in terms of energy supplies, Yerevan now depends on Moscow, which, according to the Congressman, wants to restore the USSR. "I am sure that Armenia does not want to return to the Soviet Union," the Congressman stressed.
Kanchelian also noted Armenia's tremendous potential in terms of technological development. The US, in turn, is ready to expand its political and economic relations with Armenia. "We want to strengthen our relations with Armenia so that it will never again feel threat to its sovereignty," she noted. Another <fore> of Armenia is the Diaspora. Many Armenians who have reached the highest heights in the US want to restore ties with Armenia, and congressmen will also discuss these issues.
To note, on the initiative of US Congressman of Armenian origin Jackie Spir Kanchelyan, a delegation of representatives of the US Congress arrived in Yerevan on September 17. The delegation includes Congressman Frank Pallon who, during the devastating earthquake in Spitaketakz, brought American assistance to Armenia, another Congressman of Armenian origin, Anna Eshu, Congressman David Valadao, whose initiative the Congress decided to allocate additional funds for demining operations in Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia will also be visited by Congressman Tulsi Gaball from the Hawaiian Islands and Congressman Jim Skenbrenner representing Wisconsin.
