ArmInfo. The proposal of Armenian Government to take 100 million cubic meters of water due to the lack of a natural climate in the sediments was not observed. This opinion was expressed at the press conference by the chairman of "Association for Sustainable Human Development" social organization Karine Danielyan.
According to her, the Government took this step not because of the needs of agriculture, but rather of the energy sector. "I am a member of the Committee on Lake Sevan under the President, and even this issue was not discussed there. In this case, I do not understand why this commission is needed at all. National Assembly, when discussing a Government decision, should listen to our opinion. The blow to Sevan is a sacrilege, "she stated.
In her turn, the head of "Forests of Armenia"NGO, lawyer Nazeli Vardanyan noted that the tendency of nature capitalization is seen from the side of the Government. "Our troubles come precisely from the fact that everything is being capitalized, only a small part of nature remains. All this is done to the detriment of nature, and some people have become rich as a result, "Vardanyan said.
In her opinion, the Government's decision is aimed exclusively at protecting the interests of some private traders who have real estate on the shores of the Sevan, and increasing water level can flood these buildings.
"We had a positive shift in biodiversity, we lost 50 species of birds, and now they have returned to Lake Sevan. If we want the lake to breathe and the fauna of the lake come to life, we need to conduct serious research in order to determine in what state the water is, "she said.
The former director of Sevan National Park Gagik Minasyan and expert Seyran Minasyan also expressed their dissatisfaction with the Government's decision. Seyran Minasyan considers the data submitted by the State Water Management Committee to be forged. "I think we must charge of, demanding the authors of this fraud be brought to justice," he said.
