ArmInfo.Visa free status launched by Yerevan in respect to Qatar, does not generate any threats for Armenia. Such an opinion was stated by oriental studies expert Armen Petrosyan at a press conference held in Yerevan on June 6.
According to him, from about 2,6 mln of Qatar population only several hundred thousands have Qatar citizenship, and all other population is represented by other nations. Hence, the visa free status is related to that several thousands. "Besides, I think that Armenia could effectively use the situation with Qatar and improve cooperation. As it is known, under the conditions of isolation the only path to internal world for Qatar is the Persian Gulf, and next comes Iran which has already expressed its support to Qatar. So, in this situation Armenia could have certain benefits setting tripartite cooperation in Armenia-Iran-Qatar format.
But this scenario will be effective just and only if the conflict around Qatar will be a long lasting one," the expert stated. He added also that another scenario is possible as well, meaning an overturn inside the country and coming of new leader to the wheel of power revising the policy of the country.
At the same time, in all the situation formed around Qatar the expert sees the routs of Saudi Arabia. According to him, Saudi Arabia tries to become the key player in the region and tries to show its huge ambitions.
To mention, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt on June 5 stopped diplomatic relations with Qatar and freeze all the land, air and sea contacts with that country, charging Qatar in terrorism support and intervention in their internal affairs.
The formal reason for such a step was the support provided by Qatar to terrorist, particularly to ISIS and to Al Kaida . As it has been informed earlier, in late May the Emir of Qatar delivered a speech dedicated to normal relations with Iran, which caused a cascade of critics at the summit of Gulf countries. It was officially stated later that the publication was implemented by hackers.
