ArmInfo.Today in the northern avenue of the capital of Armenia a well-known public activist, lawyer, director of the Bagin law company Argishti Kiviryan was detained and then escorted to the police station.
Kiviryan told media, police officers came to him in the street with a demand of search, to which the lawyer noted that the search is illegal. After that, the police contacted the superior, on whose order Kiviryan was detained, explaining his behavior with suspicion of lawyer having with cold steel. "I told them that I am the director of a law firm and I know the laws well. But according to their non-conductive behavior it was clear that they know who I am, and are executing an order. The only thing I asked for was not to get close to me as much as possible, I covered my pockets with my hands and followed them to the station, "the lawyer said.
Already at the station, Kiviryan and lawyers who arrived for him, were informed that in the right pocket of the analyst was noticed a certain object, similar to the cold weapon. After such statement, in the presence of witnesses, the lawyer emptied his pockets containing to prove contrary. "Weapon" was a bunch of keys. "The expression on their faces showed regret that they did not have time to put in my pocket something that looked like a knife. Obviously, it was an order, "he added.
Kiviryan is convinced that today's incident should be viewed from a global point of view. In his opinion, there are not so many active figures in Armenia who behave independently from the current regime, in particular, they are not counterparts of this regime, and which is why they are trying to isolate such people. He expressed the supposition that the motive of today's incident could be a lawsuit against the head of the Armenian Police Vladimir Gasprayan and his deputy Hunan Poghosyan, as well as his active involvement in public life, in particular, through social networks. Kiviryan referred to his publications in social networks, dating back to months before, where he stated that he did not exclude that he would be a victim of such treatment: they would come to him, find a prohibited object, or make accusations of rape, etc. He called himself a target for the authorities and did not rule out a repeat of this in the future.
To note, in connection with this case, Armenian Police today spread extremely illogical and, by and large, ridiculous information according to which any citizen on the street, including a foreigner, can be searched, and in case of disobedience, brought to the police station .
The nonsense of Police statement is that the reason of citizen bringing to the station was suspicion. Neither facts, nor operational data in the development of a specific, suspected crime, a person, namely random suspicion, suddenly born in the heads of street guards of order! If there were no "political intentions" or other motivations against the public activist behind the actions of the Police, then, apparently, the leadership of this structure should start to clean up its staff from non-professionals and generally random people, and not justify their illegal behavior 'Ears' with references to articles of the Criminal Code. Otherwise, nothing can be a guarantee that the law-enforcement system of Armenia that is reforming by means of European money will not become tempted to introduce in the country, if necessary, the most common practice of the "Pinochet regime".
