ArmInfo.EU calls Armenian authorities to conduct massive democratic reforms in the country aimed at total implementation of human rights protection, freedom of speech and mass media and the rule of law, as well as to implement objective researches on every possible situation of violation of these basic rights and freedom. This was stated during the press conference in Yerevan, as a result of David McAllister, European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs regional visit.
At the same time, he expressed satisfaction on conducted parliamentary elections in April in Armenia, nevertheless, noting that during the elections some mistakes were observed, and to eliminate them European parliamentarian promised EU support. McAllister also noted that after the parliamentary elections, the new Government of Armenia will face serious challenges, which are necessary for democratic reforms, improving the business environment, creating new jobs.
The European parliamentarian also assured that issues of protection of citizens' rights and freedom of speech and media were raised during all meetings in Yerevan, not only with the leadership, opposition and civil society of the country, but also with the heads of diplomatic missions of European countries. "You can be sure that all that we've heard, seen and read about Armenia will affect our work in Brussels with Yerevan. We are strongly interested in the transformation of Armenia into a country of law and democracy, "stressed the head of the commission.
In his turn, EU delegation head in Armenia Piotr Switalski stressed, that next week talks between EU and Armenia on human rights protection will take place.
