ArmInfo. At the polling station No. 1/19, the current Mayor of the Armenian capital, Taron Margaryan, who has been in office since 2011, voted in the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan. The head of the metropolitan administration came to vote with members of his family - with his mother, wife, sisters and children. According to him, he voted "in the name of Yerevan".
In an interview with journalists, Taron Margaryan commented on materials distributed by the Yelk bloc allegedly indicating the distribution of electoral bribes by the ruling Republican Party (RPA). "If there are violations, let them turn to law enforcement bodies," said Margaryan. As the acting mayor indicated, these materials are in no way connected with his election headquarters. "We called on our competitors to carry out a normal campaign without trying to blacken others, we estimate the election campaign as very normal and in a few hours you will see its results yourself," he said.
To recall, on May 12 the opposition bloc "Yelk" appealed to the Central Election Commission (CEC), demanding the cancellation of registration of the Republican Party of Armenia. "The demand for our suit rests on the fact that on the eve, in one of the HQs was an instance of the distribution of an election bribe, as well as the case of issuing a ballot. Bulletins should be provided to precinct election commissions only tomorrow. However, they were already in circulation yesterday," said the member of the "Yelk" bloc, lawyer Artak Zeynalyan. The CEC, after the meeting, denied the party "Yelk".
