ArmInfo. The Armenian education system needs structural and substantive reforms. Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan stated at a government meeting on May 11.
According to him, the most important wealth of the country is human capital, for the development of which appropriate professional training and the multilateral development of the education system are necessary. This system should train internationally competitive specialists, whose task will be to ensure the development of the country.
The Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Levon Mkrtchyan to submit proposals for the optimization of the city schools to the government apparatus within 15 days. Proposals should take into account factors such as the workload of teachers, the new organization of the educational process, the exclusion of the second shift. The minister was also instructed to work out a new model of financing the country's educational institutions, which will ensure transparency of spending of public funds, as well as their fair distribution within two months, in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance. The Minister of Education and Science is given a month to discuss with interested agencies proposals on the development of legislative initiatives aimed at the formation of educational funds. It is also planned to develop and submit to the government staff a new draft law on higher education within two months, and within four months to develop new principles for financial assistance to students and granting them scholarships. "Within one month, study and submit to the government staff proposals for optimization and integration of educational institutions of the country," Karen Karapetyan said.
