ArmInfo. The Turkish Foreign Ministry reacted to the statement of US President Donald Trump on the occasion of the events of 1915.
"We consider that the misinformation and false definitions contained in U.S. President Trump's written statement of April 24, 2017 regarding the 1915 events are derived from the information pollution created over the years by some Armenian circles in the U.S. by means of propaganda methods. We expect from the new U.S. Administration not to accredit the one-sided historical narrative of these circles, which are known for their tendency to violence and hate speech and to adopt an approach, which will take into consideration the sufferings of all sides. We would like to remind the U.S. Administration that the Ottoman Armenians who lost their lives during the First World War, were commemorated again this year on April 24 at a ceremony held by the Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul, with the respect they deserve. The statement conveyed to this ceremony by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reflects the approach of Turkey on this issue." The statement reads.
Ankara also reacted to the fact of burning the flag of Turkey during the torchlight procession in memory of the Genocide victims in Yerevan. Ankara considered this fact unacceptable and expressed its protest.
To note, on April 24, President of the United States Donald Trump delivered an annual message to Armenians on the occasion of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire"Today we remember and honor the memory of those who suffered during the "Metz Egern", one of the worst mass atrocities of the 20th century. Since 1915 - in the last years of the Ottoman Empire, 1.5 million Armenians were deported, killed or sent to death. I join the Armenian community of America and the entire Armenian Diaspora, who mourn the loss of innocent people and the suffering of many. Reflecting on this gloomy chapter in the history of mankind, we also recognize the steadfastness of the Armenian people. Many started a new life in the United States and made an indelible contribution to the development of our country, while retaining in their hearts the memories of a historical homeland in which their ancestors founded one of the great ancient civilizations. We must remember the atrocities to prevent their recurrence. We welcome the efforts of the Turks and Armenians to recognize and accept the painful pages of their own history, which is an important step towards creating the basis for a more just and tolerant future," Trump said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his condolences to the Armenians on April 24, in connection with the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, which Ankara denies.
