Satanovsky: Funded by USA and UN, Armenia as "safe territory for  refugees" will face multiple problems

ArmInfo.Funded by USA and UN, Armenia as "safe territory for refugees" will face multiple problems, the President of Institute of Middle East Evgeny Satanovsky is sure.

Armenian-American "Friendship Group of US Congress" and the Hay Dat  Commission came up with statement on assigning Armenia the status of  "safe territory for refugees", what will allow USA and UN to support  Armenia financially, Armenia received more than 20.000 compatriots  from Syria since 2011 when the Syrian Civil War started.

"Armenia, of course, can try to use this initiative in its own  interests, but it should be understood that today the United States,  the EU and the UN as a whole seek to settle refugees from the Middle  East wherever possible, therefore, by "helping"Armenia, all these  centers will solve their own problems, using Armenia, like any other  country, which is awarded this or that status," he said.

In this light, Satanovsky considers the selective accommodation of  refugees in Armenia to be extremely important, noting that,  meanwhile, under the refugees, the US, Europe and the United Nations  mean Sunni Muslims from Syria and Iran. He is also convinced that  Europeans and Americans do not intend to selectively finance the  immigration of Christians to Armenia.

Earlier, ArmInfo, regarding Armenian National Committee of America  Executive Director Aram Ambaryan reported that Yerevan has already  opened its doors for Middle East refugees. According to Ambaryan, the  program promoted by him, corresponds to the interests of refugees,  Armenia and international community. And $ 40 million, spent in  Armenia will have double results, as reception of such a number of  refugees in US and Europe will cost much more. In his turn, the  chairman of Armenian- American Group of Friendship, Congressman Frank  Pallone called on the Committee of Budget of US to allocate $ 40  million to make Armenia a "safe territory".
