Armenia's Permanent Representative to UN Zohrab Mnacakanyan, while speaking on open discussions in UN Security Council on "International Peace and Security. Conflicts in Europe", in particular, he stated that the Karabakh conflict is a question of struggle for rights and freedom of men, for aspiration to independence, which occurred because of permanent pressure and discrimination.
"At the just demand of the people of Karabakh for independence, Azerbaijan responded with riots in Kirovabad, Sumgait and Baku. It was a struggle for the survival of the Armenians in response to the barbaric policy of extermination carried out by Baku. It is a struggle for life and death for independence", said the permanent representative. Referring to the April war initiated by Azerbaijan in Karabakh conflict zone, Mnatsakanyan said that the UN Security Council has been informed about the barbarities of the Azerbaijani servicemen. He stressed that the international community should deny any possibility of a military solution of the conflicts.
Zohrabyan also noted the necessity of carrying out the Vienna and Petersburg agreements on the implementation of mechanisms of trust in the conflict zone to promote the negotiation process.
