ArmInfo. Ensuring fair elections is of great importance, John Hardin Young, Global Election Dispute Resolution Advisor, said in Yerevan at today's event dedicated to electoral processes.
The expert expressed confidence that ensuring fair elections is the key element in the entire electoral process. If any problems arise during the voting, they should be settled immediately and on the spot. Voters should be vigilant, John Hardin Young said, adding that the complaints and discontent voiced after the elections demonstrate that the problems were not settled on the spot.
Young also thinks that the voting process is simple despite the complicated wordings in the new Electoral Code. The Code gives an opportunity and even requires the commission members to immediately address the issues arising in the course of voting. Here an important role belongs to the observers and media representatives, who should play the role of a watchdog, he stressed.
He stressed that the vote tabulation outcome should reflect the people's will. To ensure fair elections is everyone's obligation. Any abuse is unacceptable, the expert said, noting that the cameras at the polling stations will hopefully reduce such risks.
To note, the event was organized with the support of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia and the British Embassy in Armenia.
