ArmInfo.Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed the Karabakh conflict settlement.
The press office of the Defense Ministry of Armenia has told ArmInfo that the meeting took place during Vigen Sargsyan's official visit to Iran. The sides stressed the need to deepen cooperation. They also pointed out the necessity to ensure peace and stability in the region, because it is an important pledge of development of the region. Sargsyan presented the situation on the line of contact between the Artsakh and Azeri troops, as well as the OSCE Minsk Group's efforts towards settlement of the Karabakh conflict. The two ministers emphasized that the conflict should be settled peacefully, and expressed willingness to contribute to peace and stability in the region.
Vigen Sargsyan also met with Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran. The meeting covered issues related to promotion of cooperation in various fields, as well as regional security and stability.
The Armenian defense minister held a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community of Iran. He stressed the significant role of the Armenian community and church in maintaining Armenian identity and the Armenian-Iranian friendly relations.
