ArmInfo. Illegal enrichment of state officials in Armenia will be penalized. On December 14, the Armenian National Assembly is discussing the relevant package of amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code in the first reading.
To recall, on November 18, the Armenian Government approved the draft amendments to the Armenian Criminal Code. The amendments imply penalization of officials' illegal enrichment exceeding AMD 5 mln (around $10,000). As Arpine Hovhannisyan, Minister of Justice, stated, the new Clause of Armenian Criminal Code will be related to persons, who bear an obligation to submit revenue declarations in accordance with the regulatory requirements. Hence, if high-ranking officials or persons affiliated to them have incomes exceeding their legal revenues and being out of any feasible justification, the provisions of this clause assuming imprisonment for 3-6 years will be applied, with a consequent prohibition to occupy certain positions and within expropriation of the property.
