ArmInfo. Armenia's Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan attended the regular 71st session of the Council of Defense Ministers of member states of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Defense Ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, representatives of the CIS Executive Committee, Secretariat of CIS Defense Ministers' Council, CIS Anti- Terrorism Center participated in the event, the press-service of the Russian Defense Ministry informs.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu opened the session urging the counterparts to jointly confront terrorism threat via expanding cooperation in defense and security. At the same time he added that within 25 years the Council of Defense Ministers has become an efficient body of multisided cooperation and military integration.
During the session 20 various issues of cooperation among the defense ministries were discussed. Particularly, results of work in 2016 were summed up and joint activities for the next year were outlined. Decisions were made on the issues of developing joint system of air defense, communications system, expanding cooperation in the field of humanitarian de-mining, training military staff, holding joint events and drills, as well as sport and educational events in CIS format.
