ArmInfo. Yerevan made a correct decision to join the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan says in an interview with Rossiya Segodnya (Russia Today) director general Dmitry Kiselyov.
He notes that Armenia lost nothing when taking that step. "For Armenia, accession to the EEU unfortunately coincided with deterioration of the economic situation of the main locomotive of the EEU - the Russian Federation - due to the sanctions imposed on it. Naturally, our economy is very small; we are connected with the Russian economy. Therefore, those external negative impacts deteriorated our indices a little bit," Sargsyan says.
"We have a market of 3 mln consumers. It is a very small market. By joining the EEU, we have become a part of the market of 170 mln consumers. And if we eventually achieve the goals laid in the basis of the EEU - free movement of goods, services, labor force and capital - we will certainly benefit a lot from it," he says.
To note, Armenia became a full member of the EEU on 1 Jan 2015.
