ArmInfo. After the election of new President, the US foreign policy will not change in respect to Nagorno Karabakh issue, told journalists Ara Papyan, the Modus Vivendi Center Director, on November 11.
The expert reminded, that before the elections Armenian community of US stated that will not support any of candidates, because no one of them promised to adjudicate the Armenian Genocide. According to Papyan, this is very wrong tactics, because the factor of the adjudication of the Genocide by American President is being fetishized by Diaspora. "Independently of the candidate's opinion regarding this issue, we should work with him," Papyan said.
What is to the position Trump will take in respect to Karabakh issue then, considering his business connections with the Azerbaijani president, and he, according to his own wording, s not precisely informed about the heart of the mater, the role of the President's personality in leading the country is very exaggerated in NIS countries, Papyan says. According to him, the state interests will be over business, and the policy of the state will be mostly preconditioned by the team that will join the President. Within a couple of months the prospective of Trump's presidency in respect of Armenia will become clear. At the same time, taking into consideration that Trump's person is serendipitous, it is possible to talk about unexpected steps, positive for Armenia.
Ara Papyan doesn't share the euphoria in Russian society due to Trump's victory, because thinks that the new master of the Oval Cabinet will be ruled by the interests of the United States as the leading country. The sanctions policy will not be cancelled as well, even taking into consideration the disagreement of the new President, the expert says. He also clarified, that sanctions are being decided by the Congress, and the opinion of congressmen often varies from President's opinion
