ArmInfo.Leader of Heritage Party Raffi K. Hovannisian has addressed a letter to European People's Party Chairman Joseph Daul, according to the Party's press office.
"Dear President Daul, The trumped-up charges against our three senior members (vice president Armen Martirosyan, spokesman David Sanasaryan, and civil society liaison Hovsep Khurshudyan) still have not been dropped; they still face prosecution. Civil activists such as Andrias Ghukasyan and Garo Yegnukyan continue to be incarcerated. There are scores of other prisoners of conscience and peaceful protesters languishing to this day. We respectfully request your intercession, admonition, and appropriate action," Raffi K. Hovannisian writes in the letter.
To note, Deputy Chairman of Heritage Party Armen Martirosyan, Spokesperson of the party David Sanasaryan, responsible for party's relations with civil society Hovsep Khurshudyan, and Coordinator of New Armenia Movement Andrias Ghukasyan were detained and then arrested after July 29 events when police used special means to disperse the demonstration in support of Sasna Tsrer group that seized a police compound demanding resignation of the president earlier in July. They are charged with organization of mass unrest. By the decision of the Appeal Court Deputy Chairman of Heritage Party Armen Martirosyan and Spokesperson of the Party David Sanasaryan have been released on bail. The Court of Appeal in Yerevan did not satisfy motion on changing measure of restraint for member of New Armenia oppositionist movement Andrias Ghukasyan and set him free on bail. KaroYeghnukyan was detained on July 20 for supporting Sasna Tsrer group.
