Armenia`s former Ombudsman on the beating of an activist by an  official: This is a result of high political patronage
 Wednesday, April 30 2025, 15:40

ArmInfo.  The behavior of the head of the Nor-Nork administrative district of Yerevan, Tigran Ter-Margaryan, and other officials, in the brazen beating of a  citizen by a group of people is hooliganism and disrespect for the  state and statehood. This was the respond of Arman Tatoyan, former  Ombudsman of Armenia and head of the Tatoyan Foundation, to Ter-  Margaryan's beating of activist Artur Chakhoyan in the administration  building. "This is a result of high political patronage, which has  allowed criminal morals to infiltrate the state system. The elite of  the ruling force "Civil Contract" appoints people to positions who  engage in "criminal showdowns" with their critics and distort the  value of statehood. And once again, they collectively justify what  happened, referring to some political issues, thereby proving that  narrow political and personal interests are above state interests.

Armenia`s Ombudsman declines to comment on whether she condemns  violence by officials against citizens
 Wednesday, April 30 2025, 14:48

ArmInfo. Armenia's Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan avoided answering a direct question from journalists during a briefing about whether she condemns violence by officials against citizens.  The discussion focused on an incident today involving the beating of the beating of public figure  Artur Chakhoyan by the head of Yerevan's Nor Nork administrative  district, Tigran Ter-Margaryan. Chakhoyano came to the administration  building to discuss the  construction of a kindergarten and a  playground with the head of Nor Nork. It should be noted that as a  result of the fight, it was not Ter-Margaryan who was detained by law  enforcement officers, but the injured activist Artur Chakhoyan, who  was not only attacked by the head of Nor-Nork, but also by some of  his subordinates. Chakhoyan is currently hospitalized.

 Wednesday, April 30 2025, 14:19

ArmInfo.  Reversing the genocide committed by Azerbaijan in Artsakh and the release of Armenian hostages illegally held in Baku were the focus of a hearing of the Tom Lantos Commission on Human Rights of the US Congress, chaired by US Representative Chris Smith.  As reported by the  Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), the hearing in the US  Congress, titled "Human Rights in Azerbaijan since the UN Climate  Change Conference (COP-29)" brought renewed urgency to US  Congressional action aimed at  returning Armenians to Artsakh,  holding Azerbaijan accountable, releasing Armenian hostages and  ending US complicity in the Aliyev regime's crimes.  Executive  Director Aram Hamparian noted that the hearing offered an unflinching  look at Azerbaijan's genocide of  Artsakh's indigenous Armenians and  its ongoing abuse of Armenian hostages. "Chairman Chris Smith and  each of the witness gave voice to the truth, to justice, and the  moral imperative of U.S.  action. These hearings send a clear  message: the time for words is has passed - the time for meaningful  sanctions, Congressional legislation, and real pressure on Baku is  now," Hamparian said.

Azerbaijani regime`s prosecutions against Artsakh officials,  civilians and POWs aimed to erase Armenian leadership and identity  from region - Jared Genser
 Wednesday, April 30 2025, 13:12

ArmInfo.  At the Congressional hearing of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, chaired by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ). The hearing, titled "Human Rights in Azerbaijan since the COP 29 UN Climate Change Conference," Jared Genser, Managing Director of Perseus Strategies, LLC, who is the attorney for former Artsakh Minister and Azerbaijan hostage Ruben Vardanyan, highlighted the repression faced by Artsakh's leadership and  Christian Armenians imprisoned in Azerbaijan, the Armenian National  Committee of America (ANCA) reports.  "Ruben's ongoing imprisonment  remains a powerful symbol of Aliyev's brutality. He faces life in  prison on more than 40 fabricated charges. His trial is a mockery of  justice: closed proceedings, no access to legal counsel, and even  denial of the Bible. He was tortured during a hunger strike. And he's  not alone - at least 23 Armenians are being held in sham trials, and  hundreds more have been forcibly disappeared." Genser explained that  the Azerbaijani regime has launched politically motivated  prosecutions against current and former officials of Artsakh, as well  as civilians and POWs, all in a broader effort to erase Armenian  leadership and identity from the region.  "Dictators never release  prisoners because they are asked. They do so only when compelled,"  Genser stated. "That's why the Azerbaijan Democracy Act, public  hearings, international referrals, and real sanctions are critical."
