the framework of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Valletta, Armenian
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with the foreign ministers and
representatives of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) countries. A joint
meeting in this format was held for the first time during the current
Swedish chairmanship. As reported by the press service of the RA
MFA, the meeting was attended by Swedish Foreign Minister Maria
Stenergaard, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, Latvian Foreign
Minister Baiba Braze, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eiden
and representatives of other countries participating in the format.
ArmInfo. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure (MTUI) of Armenia Hovhannes Harutyunyan received Rebecca Lie, Vice Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway. As reported by the press service of MTAI, energy related issues were discussed during the meeting. In particular, the Deputy Minister presented programs focused on generating solar and wind power using renewable energy sources within the framework of international cooperation. Referring to the Crossroads of Peace project, Harutyunyan noted that the implementation of the project aims to unblock the region's infrastructure, including power transmission lines, which will allow further enhance cooperation.
ArmInfo. Until 2023, passports with code 070 granted Artsakh residents the same rights as Armenian citizens, except for the right to participate in elections. Artsakh Ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan made this statement at the hearings at the National Assembly of Armenia on November 29. He pointed out that in addition to the possibility of obtaining temporary protection status, Artsakh residents were also being offered expedited registration for Armenian citizenship. However, statistics show that forcibly displaced Artsakh residents are hesitant to apply for citizenship due to various reasons, both objective and subjective. Gegham Stepanyan explained that the concerns of the Artsakh people regarding obtaining Armenian citizenship are related, among other things, to the exercise of their right to return. "During conversations with the Artsakh people, it is evident that the loss of the opportunity to return raises significant concerns, and, unfortunately, this issue has not been adequately addressed," the Ombudsman explained.

ArmInfo.The UN Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) has published recommendations regarding amendments to the Armenian Law "On the Human Rights Defender". These recommendations cover various issues such as the term of office of the defender, the provision of sufficient financial resources from the state budget and other related matters. As ArmInfo was informed by the Office of the Ombudsman of Armenia, these recommendations were the result of the re-accreditation of national human rights institutions conducted by GANHRI in October of this year and reviewed by the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENHRI).

Environment. After thanking the German side for their willingness to
provide support, the Minister emphasized: "Holding COP17 in Armenia
is a pivotal moment for us, and we want to organize it properly.
Therefore, it is important to exchange experiences with the German
side on ensuring the participation of different countries in the
forum, as well as the proper engagement of youth and women." He also
pointed out the effective high-level cooperation between the two
countries with an expanded agenda that goes beyond environmental
protection.
