Aliyev urged not to worry about the fate of Christian churches in  Karabakh, but should he be trusted...

President of  Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev urged not to worry about the fate of  Christian churches in the territories in Karabakh that have passed  or are coming under the control of Baku, stressing that they are all  the country's historical heritage. He announced this on November 23  in front of the Aghdam mosque.

"Today, after the end of the war, some Western leaders are raising  the question of what will happen to Christian churches in the lands  that have come under the control of Azerbaijan, express concern both  during conversations with me and in official statements. Let no one worry, especially the leaders of the Western states that incite  Islamophobia, turn a blind eye to the desecration of Islamic shrines and even justify those who commit this. All churches in our  territories are our historical heritage, "Aliyev said.

The President of Azerbaijan stressed that all historical monuments in  the country are protected by the state.  And then he uttered a most  curious phrase that clarifies everything. Thus, Aliyev assured that  allegedly some Christian churches are not Armenian, but allegedly  Albanian and Orthodox. Meanwhile, it is well known that there are no  Albanian churches on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent  regions.  Such statements by the Azerbaijani leader already indicate  that it is reckless to hope for their safety in the future, and most  likely they will suffer the same fate as hundreds of other Armenian  religious and cultural sites on the territory of Azerbaijan. That is,  they will be bulldozed, as was the case with khachkars in Old Jugha.

This is evidenced by the vandalism and barbaric attitude of the  Azerbaijani military towards the monuments of the Armenian cultural,  historical and religious heritage. A vivid example is the desecration  of the Green Church in Shushi. Prior to this, the Azerbaijani Armed  Forces carried out two targeted missile strikes on the symbol of the  city of Shushi - the St. Ghazanchetsots Cathedral.

It is also worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin took  under his patronage the St. Ghazanchetsots Cathedral in Shushi, as  well as the The Monastery of St. Dadi (Dadivank) located in the  Karvachar region. A post of Russian peacekeepers has been set up near  Dadivank.

The Russian side also turned to UNESCO with a request to address the  issue of organizing the preservation of the cultural, historical and  religious heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh.
