ArmInfo. The French Senate has received a draft resolution on the recognition of the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. This is reported by TASS with reference to one of the authors of the submitted document, Senator Bruno Retayo.
In his words, on November 25 the Senate will consider a resolution on the recognition of the Artsakh Republic by France. "Only the recognition of independence will reliably guarantee the rights and freedoms of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh in the face of Turkish Islamist expansionism," the senator said. Note, however, that resolutions of the Senate, as a rule, are of a recommendatory nature. The authors of the document are five senators representing different factions: Bruno Retaio (leader of the Republican group), Patrick Kanner, Herve Marcel (leader of the "Union of Centrists" group), as well as Eliane Assassi and Guillaume Gautard. In mid-October, the draft on the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh was submitted to the National Assembly - the lower house of parliament.
France is the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is looking for ways of a peaceful settlement in Karabakh. French President Emmanuel Macron announced the deployment of militants of jihadist groups from Syria to Karabakh.
The war in Nagorno-Karabakh has officially stopped, Russia, as the guarantor of the security of the region, has introduced peacekeeping troops there.
