ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the aggravation in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict could be a very good reason for radical Islamists to settle, for example, in Azerbaijan. He said this during a meeting with Russian journalists, reports Lenta.ru.
According to the Armenian Prime Minister, after the defeat of the militants of the "Islamic State" in Syria and Iraq, the Islamists are "looking for new places to prove themselves". Azerbaijan, according to Pashinyan, is a "very convenient point" that allows you to act in the direction of Iran, the Russian South Caucasus and Central Asia.
For these reasons, the Prime Minister believes, the next round of escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh will no longer be local. According to him, understanding of this picture is not only in Yerevan, but also in Moscow, Baku and Tehran.
Denoting the importance of the Transcaucasian region for Russia, Pashinyan expressed confidence that Moscow is interested in solving the Nagorno-Karabakh problem and will become a guarantor that this issue will be resolved "exclusively by peaceful means". According to him, Russia has all the necessary levers that will prevent a new escalation. "And I can't believe that when it's needed, Russians don't use these levers," he stressed.
