ArmInfo. The government of Armenia at an extraordinary meeting approved the amendments to the laws on the ban on the import of right-hand drive cars. As a result, the terms to import vehicles with right-side steering located in the customs territories have been extended until May 1, 2019, as well as cars for which payments were made before December 31, 2018.
Earlier, on March 14, in the second and final reading, the Armenian parliament approved the draft amendments to the laws "On the ban on the import of right-hand cars". As a result, it became necessary to make appropriate changes to the earlier decision of the Cabinet by prolonging the permissible terms of importation of a car with the right steering wheel from April 1, 2018 to May 1, 2019. In addition, according to the draft, cars purchased before December 31, 2018 are subject to import, instead of early deadline of January 25, 2018. For the remaining vehicles, this measure will not apply.
It is envisaged that about 1 thousand vehicles with right-hand drive, accumulated in the customs zone at the Bagratashen checkpoint, are to be brought into the country. The previous bill, which was sharply criticized by auto-importers, proposed to set the deadline by April 1 of this year. However, taking into account the limited time (adoption of the document by the parliament and its entry into force) at the proposal of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia, this deadline was postponed to May 1, 2019.
Recently, the State Revenue Committee of Armenia has already made an appeal to the owners of right-hand drive cars that have accumulated in the customs zone of the Bagratashen checkpoint to carry out customs procedures and withdraw vehicles from the customs zone. SRC calls upon the owners of these vehicles to independently withdraw them from the customs zone by March 29, since they impede the normal operation of the customs services. Otherwise, these vehicles will be transferred to the temporary territory of the customs zone, for which, according to the law "On Customs Regulation", the customs duty will be levied.
