Permanent Representative of the RA to the BSEC represented Armenia at the farewell ceremony of the Patriarch of Constantinople of the Armenian Apostolic Church Mesrop II Mutafyan in Istanbul. Press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Anna Naghdalyan stated this on March 20 at a press conference in Yerevan.
At the same time, she stressed that the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the BSEC at the farewell ceremony conveyed condolences to the President and the Prime Minister of Armenia.
To note, on March 17, the funeral of the Patriarch of Constantinople of the Armenian Apostolic Church Mesrop II Mutafyan was held in Istanbul. The funeral ceremony was held in the Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) Temple in Istanbul. Representatives of the church, government, intelligentsia, including MP Garo Paylan, gathered in the temple. Patriarch of Jerusalem Nurhan Manukyan led the service. The body of the late patriarch was buried in the Armenian cemetery in the Sisli district.
Mesrop Mutafyan died on March 8 at the age of 62 years. The Patriarch of Constantinople suffered for many years from an incurable disease, due to which he was not able to manage the affairs of the patriarchate. Locum tenens of the throne was Archbishop Aram Ateshyan.
