Gagits Bagunts: Under pressure from the Armenian authorities, it is impossible to organize new elections to the Artsakh parliament

ArmInfo. The Artsakh Parliament continues to function amid the crisis that arose following the resignation of the Speaker of the National Assembly. This was stated by Acting Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh Gagik Baghunts during a ceremony at the NKR Representative Office in Yerevan, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the declaration of independence.

"We continue to bear the responsibility of voicing the voice of the forcibly displaced people of Artsakh in the name of protecting our collective rights. Taking into account the unprecedentedly difficult conditions that have developed, the occupation of the entire territory of Artsakh by Azerbaijan and its de-Armenization, the pressure exerted by the Armenian authorities, and the lack of resources and public administration tools, "We do not consider it impossible to organize new and fair elections at this stage," Bagunts said.

He reiterated that the parliament will continue to function in its current composition and, if favorable conditions exist, appropriate electoral processes will be organized.

It should be noted that on July 2, 2026, Ashot Danielyan, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, who was also entrusted with the functions of President, announced his decision to resign. Ashot Danielyan was elected Speaker of Parliament on May 21, 2025 (replacing Gagik Bagunts, who had been acting as Speaker of the National Assembly since the previous Speaker, David Ishkhanyan, was arrested by Azerbaijan in the fall of 2023).
