Political strategist Armen Badalyan stated in an interview with an ArmInfo correspondent, while commenting on the results of the snap elections for the Councils of Elders of the Gyumri and Parakar communities held on March 30.

Prosecutor`s Office initiated a criminal case against Gyumri mayoral candidate Vardan Ghukasyan

ArmInfo. The Prosecutor's Office has launched a criminal case against Vardan Ghukasyan, a mayoral candidate in Gyumri from the Communist Party of Armenia. According to Armenian media, this information was reported by the prosecutor's advisor Lusine Martirosyan. The criminal case was initiated based on a recording of a conversation that surfaced online a few days prior and is attributed to Vardan Ghukasyan. In this conversation, the mayoral candidate threatened a group of people with consequences if they did not gather and come to him. As Martirosyan noted, a criminal case was initiated on charges related to violence against a person or his close relative, destruction, damage or seizure of property through threats or blackmail, and coercion to attend or abstain from a meeting for material gain.

This statement was made by Metakse Hakobyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, in a conversation with journalists on March 31 outside the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, where the protest of the Artsakh people was taking place. Hakobyan pointed out that the Armenian authorities perceive the Artsakh people only as "material" for social programs. She expressed confidence that government's current initiatives to support the Artsakh people are not aimed at helping them, but at trying to get rid of them. According to her, the statements made by the ruling regime result in Artsakh residents being attacked by certain sections of Armenian society, leading them to leave Armenia. Additionally, Hakobyan believes that, given the current geopolitical situation, there is a real opportunity for Artsakh residents to return to their homes, but not under the current government in Armenia.
