"Needless to say that Crimea's occupation was not planned far before it happened. It was the Kremlin's heavy response to Maidan's victory in Ukraine. It is absolutely clear that the victory in Ukraine became a categorical, vital challenge to Putin's regime," Aleksander Kolomiets, President at the Kyev-based Center for European and Transatlantic Studies, told ArmInfo.
"Unfortunately, Crimea's annexation was a result of actual inertia, if not betrayal, of the present Ukrainian authorities. History will show if they will face trial or not. However, it is nearly obvious that Putin and his minions should be brought before the international court for occupying and destroying the world security architecture," he said.
In this light, the analysts said, such organizations as the UN, CoE, and OSCE become absolutely useless. As for the EU and NATO, it is a sad spectacle. In fact, the world community, as Kolomiets thinks, is back to the 19th century with modern technologies but savage men in power and the laws of the jungle.
"Unfortunately, Ukraine is alone on the frontline of the fight for civilization. In this light, there is urgent need for a new global democratic institute," he said.
