The decision of the Yerevan Mayor's Office to use paid parking is only called to bring this sphere under regulation, Director of the CJSC Parking City Service, Vazgen Harutyunyan, said at today's press-conference.
He also added that if earlier a driver used to pay for parking to the non-registered parking servicemen up to 600-700 drams per day, today with a help of
introduction of the new system this sum will be reduced to 30 drams and drivers will pay 12 thsd drams for a year and make parking where they want.
To recall, according to the Mayor's Office website, paid parking is now available in the city in places marked with red dotted lines. Harutyunyan said that signs and information boards have been placed in such places and soon they will also be equipped with surveillance cameras. The parking sites will also be controlled with the aid of patrol vehicles also equipped with cameras. The decision of the Mayor's Office caused displeasure of citizens. An initiative at Facebook called on the community to boycott the decision which fully confronts Armenia's Constitution, as they think.
Director of the Parking City Service called disinformation that drivers will be fined by his company for non-payment. He said that the company will only offer the evidence of breach by drivers, all the rest is up to the mayor's office to act according to the legislation.
Harutyan also added that his company is going to invest about $10 mln till the end of 2014 for organizing of the paid parking, $2,5 mln of which have been already spent. So, the company is going to fully equip Yerevan streets by the end of the next year.
