On November 28, the Communist Party
of Armenia held its 39th congress in Yrevan.
Delegates from Karabakh, Russia and Georgia also attended the
congress. Young pioneers opened the
event.
In his speech the First Secretary of the Central
Committee of the Communist Party, Tatchat Sargsyan, recalled the days of former
greatness of Soviet Armenia. He stressed that much more was built over the 70
years of the Soviet regime in Armenia than throughout the Armenian history. Sargsyan
added with discontent that despite such achievements, the Communist Party
obtained only 15 thsd votes during the latest parliamentary elections in
Armenia.
He promised to initiate some structural changes in the
party, because he thinks that there is no alternative to socialism and that
people do not stop waiting for the Communists' return.
