Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, who is attending the General Debate Sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, met with Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on 28 September. The sides discussed the negotiations for resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Foreign Ministry of Armenia told ArmInfo.
Minister Nalbandian said that the UN and the CoE come out as the key partners in the fight against xenophobia and intolerance and for protection of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people. These are the priorities of Armenia in the course of its chairmanship of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.
The sides discussed also the crisis in Syria and the situation with refugees from that country. Nalbandian said that Armenia has already given shelter to over 10,000 Syrian Armenians. Edward Nalbandian and Ban Ki-moon welcomed the UN Resolution on the Chemical Weapons in Syria that was passed by the Security Council on 27 September. They welcomed the efforts aiming peaceful resolution of the Syrian conflict.
