At a meeting of the Standing Committee of the OSCE PA prior to the plenary session of the Assembly in Baku on June 28, the Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Vice Speaker Bahar Muradova, proposed expanding the powers of the representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the South Caucasus, Joao Soares, to help solve the conflicts in the region. Myradova believes that OSCE PA works insufficiently towards facilitating settlement of existing conflicts in the South Caucasus, Turan reports.
However, she noted that despite the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group, there are no results in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
"The OSCE PA does not work enough in this direction. Therefore I would like the mandate to be expanded. It would be better if Mr. Soares visited the region more frequently than once every two or three years and worked more actively for mediation in resolution of the regional conflicts. If we are here to discuss the crisis over Ukraine, the South Caucasus problems become more urgent," Muradova said.
