During the July 31 hearings in Mashtots Park, Head of the Public Council of Armenia Vazgen Manukyan called on the Let's Pay 100 AMD movement activists to join efforts and to start a fair fight.
He said that when the Municipality of Yerevan raised the public transport fare, the Public Council held active negotiations with the Municipality and tried to influence the decision made. "Our work was not visible, but the results of your work are obvious. We are a link between the authorities and the public. Subsequently, we suggest cooperating with us to gain more tangible results", said Manukyan.
In the meantime, he considers the activists' discourtesy to be incorrect. The matter concerns the fact that the activists ignore representatives of a number of TV companies. "Our goal is fair and we should attain it by legal methods", he said.
To note, some of the activists were shouting while Manukyan was making his speech. Most of the activists state that they do not trust the Public Council and do not care about its opinion.
To note, on July 20 the Yerevan Municipality announced 50% rise in the public transport fare. The decision was suspended following the actions of public protest. Now the activists demand resignation of Head of the Municipality's Transport Department Henrik Navasardyan and Head of Yerevantrans Misak Hambardzumyan.
