Turkey's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismayil Alper Coskun has misinterpreted German Ambassador to Armenia Reiner Morell.
When commenting on Coskun's statement "With regard to the German ambassador's statement, I can say that first of all we don't need any recommendations", Reiner Morell has told ArmInfo that he has never given and will never give any recommendations to Turkey.
Ambassador Morell says that Germany would like to see no more difficulties in the Armenia-Turkey relations. Germany has seen that some steps were taken to overcome them, but these steps have been exhausted and they have not given a final solution to the problem. Morell stresses that Germany would be glad to see the difficulties removed and good-neighborly relations established between the two countries. Reiner Morell reiterates that he has given no recommendations and he has only said how they resolved their problems after WWII. He thought it might be interesting for other entities and countries to see, draw lessons, think about it and make conclusions. The diplomat points out that Germany never gives recommendations unless a country applies to it for recommendations.
To note, in an interview with APA, Turkey's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismayil Alper Coskun quotes German Ambassador to Armenia Reiner Morell as saying, "Turkey must apologize to Armenia". Coskun says that Armenia's regional policy is wrong and it cannot ensure the future of its state and people through claims and accusations against its neighbors.
"With regard to the German ambassador's statement, I can say that first of all we don't need any recommendations. I think instead of giving recommendations to Turkey, it would be better if he urged Armenia, where he is functioning as an ambassador, to withdraw its forces from the occupied territories. Demands "Turkey must apologize" or attempts to raise this issue in the European Union are groundless and do not have any perspective," Coskun says.
