Armenia's Foreign Ministry should adequately react at the "notes" in birth certificates of Turkish Armenians, and use this fact at the world arena in the matter of the Armenian genocide recognition, Turkologist Lilit Gasparyan said at today's press-conference.
This is evidence of the fact that democracy in Turkey is of a fictive nature and this country pays attention at the national and religious difference between citizens. "This also means that Turkey goes on conducting the policy started in 1900. For this reason, it is very much possible that the Armenian genocide may happen again. Armenian diplomats should raise the issue at the world arena", - she said and added that at present about 70 thsd Armenians live in Turkey.
For his part, director of "Modus Vivendi" Centre, Ara Papyan, said that Armenia's Foreign Ministry is always late to react at the events in Turkey, and it is becoming more and more passive in the propaganda affairs day by day. "The note in the birth certificates of the Turkish Armenians proves that this country is not ready to join the European Union, as it has been conducting the policy of discrimination on the national and religious signs", - he said.
To recall, official correspondence sent within the Education Ministry has revealed that non-Muslim minorities in Turkey are categorized based on their ethnicity, which is assigned a number, in a practice that dates back to the establishment of the republic.
According to a report by the Agos daily, since 1923, Armenians, Greeks and Jews have been assigned code numbers in official correspondence between government institutions. A letter sent by the Istanbul Directorate of National Education to its Sisli branch indicates that Armenian citizens are given the code number two.
