Pre-Parliament: Police launch criminal prosecution against activist

Police have launched criminal prosecution against activist Gevorg Safaryan, who campaigned against renaming Mashtots Park into Misak Manushyan Park, the Pre- Parliament public interest group told ArmInfo.

According to Pre-Parliament, the police applied force when detaining Safaryan. "To conceal their unlawful actions, the Police have launched criminal prosecution against the activist," the Pre-Parliament public interest group claims.

To recall, on 13 May the Police detained 7 young people campaigning against renaming Masktots Park into French Armenian Hero Misak Manushyan Park. Earlier, the Police reported that Gevorg Safaryan is charged with Article 316.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (violence against public agent).
