The process of signing Association Agreement between the EU and eastern partners has failed, Director of the Caucasus Institute, Aleksandr Iskandaryan, said at today's press-conference. He said that Ukraine had to be the center of the Association project, but it did not become that because of Russia's strong influence upon the member-states of the "Eastern partnership" programme.
He also added that Georgia and Moldova is not the level the EU was striving at. "This is a game and its configuration will remain interesting thanks to the events happening at present", - the expert said. As for Armenia, he said that despite the decision of Armenia to join the Customs Union, Europe has not stopped the talks with our country.
He also added that the decision adopted by Armenia on 3 September means not Armenia's joining the Customs Union, but abandoning to sign the Association Agreement. "I am not confident that the Customs Union will exist in five years. I am not confident either that in case of successful fulfillment of this project, Armenia will be its participant. But even if Yerevan joins the CU formally, I am not confident that Armenia will in fact be a member of this organization", - Iskandaryan concluded.
