ArmInfo. The Pentagon has asked the White House to approve a request to Congress for over $200 billion in funding for the war in Iran, the Washington Post reports, citing a senior US administration official.
However, it is unclear how much the White House will ultimately ask lawmakers in Congress for. According to some White House officials, the Pentagon's request has no realistic chance of being approved by Congress.
The Pentagon has also put forward several different funding proposals over the past two weeks.
Several officials estimate that the US war against Iran has cost Americans over $11 billion in the first week alone.
Shortly after the war began, the Trump administration began preparing a supplemental funding request to cover the costs.
Even before the Iran war, Donald Trump was demanding that this year's defense budget be $1.5 trillion, more than 50% higher than the previous year. It remains unclear how and whether the additional funding can be counted toward this total. The White House Office of Management and Budget objected to the proposal, saying the amount was too high.
