ArmInfo. Armenia has chosen a peaceful strategy for the development of events in the region and is moving in this direction, as stated by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the government hour in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on March 26, in response to a question from NA MP Lilit Minasyan from the ruling Civil Contract faction. The MP, in particular, highlighted the potential for Yerevan to use asymmetrical actions against Baku in response to provocations by Azerbaijan. Minasyan noted that the decades-long negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan led to the final approval of the draft peace treaty. However, Azerbaijan is currently resorting to new tricks, putting forward new preconditions related to the corridor, the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. At the same time, the neighboring state is making these demands while spreading misinformation about alleged shelling of its positions by Armenia.
In response, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia noted that Armenia has chosen a peaceful strategy for the development of events in the region and is actively moving in this direction. According to Pashinyan, both within Armenia and beyond its borders, there are ongoing processes aimed at moving the country out of the framework of this strategy. "All actions taken by the Armenian side must be considered in this logic of developments. One cannot help but pay attention to one more fact, namely, the reaction of the Armenian side to what is happening is considered precisely in the context of this strategy," the head of the Cabinet said.
He also discussed the issue of preconditions from Azerbaijan. According to the Prime Minister, the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group is possible after signing a peace treaty and refusing to continue the Karabakh movement. "We want to be sure that as we reject this movement, we expect reciprocal actions from Baku. For example, renouncing the notion of so-called Western Azerbaijan. In this case, it is not about the logic of the peace treaty, but about preventing the conflict from shifting from Azerbaijan's territory to Armenia's," the Prime Minister emphasized.
Regarding Baku's demands to change the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, Pashinyan stressed that the text of the peace treaty addresses this issue. That is why official Yerevan does not raise the issue of the Constitution of Azerbaijan, which includes claims to the sovereign territories of Armenia. "Negotiations for a peace treaty have been ongoing since 2021, and if one side now declares its unwillingness to sign it, the question arises, why was the effort made to agree on the text of the document?" the head of the Armenian Cabinet noted, adding that Armenia is ready for a peace treaty, despite the challenges at hand.
