ArmInfo. Armenia is ready to waive international lawsuits against Azerbaijan on the principle of reciprocity if a peace treaty is concluded. This was stated by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with the Public Television of Armenia.
"My approach is the following: if I see that we are really moving towards peace, and that is, a peace treaty is really concluded, then we can come to an agreement - to mutually withdraw lawsuits in international courts about past events. And in the future, not to file lawsuits about past events, hoping that in the future there will be no reason for this," he noted.
At the same time, the Prime Minister noted that if in the future there is a reason to file a claim with the International Court, neither the Armenian nor the Azerbaijani side will be limited in this. Let us recall that on September 28, 2023, Armenia filed a claim against Azerbaijan with the International Court of Justice regarding the alleged violation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination against the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. In addition, the Republic of Armenia submitted four complaints to the European Court of Human Rights. One of them concerns crimes and human rights violations that occurred during the 44-day 2020, the second concerns the trials of Armenian prisoners of war in Baku.
Another case concerns the invasion of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces into the territory of Armenia and the crimes committed there, and the latest complaint concerns the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, massive human rights violations and ethnic cleansing. At the same time, Azerbaijani media, citing the country's Foreign Ministry, reported that on November 19, 2024, the Azerbaijani government submitted the main document of the claim against Armenia to the Permanent Arbitration Court, accusing the Armenian side of allegedly violating Azerbaijan's sovereign rights to energy resources.
