ArmInfo. Moscow has not received any requests from the Armenian authorities regarding the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Yerevan Zvartnots airport.
This was stated on February 28 during a weekly briefing by spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in response to a request to comment on the statement of Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan about the need to withdraw Russian border guards from Yerevan Zvartnots airport.
"We consider it as another example of unfriendly behavior by a representative of official Yerevan, although it is not entirely clear to what extent the speaker of parliament is responsible for the topics he raised," Zakharova noted.
At the same time, the Russian diplomat added that Moscow understands that the story with "Zvartnots" stems from earlier insinuations around the Russian Dmitry Strakov. "I can assure you that there were no illegal actions by Russian representatives in this context. We always respect the national legislation of sovereign states," Zakharova concluded.
On February 27, the speaker of the Armenian parliament, in a conversation with journalists, noted that he considers the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Zvartnots to be correct. "I am confident that Armenia is capable of protecting its borders, but I am not sure that Russian border guards will do so. The opposite has already been confirmed several times. Not to mention that they have done everything to make this border more vulnerable," said the speaker.
