An event dedicated to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will take place in Yerevan in October, was held at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event was organized by the European Parliament's Committee on Environment, Health and Food Security (ENVI) in cooperation with the Delegation of Armenia to the European Union and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, welcoming remarks were delivered by members of the European Parliament, co-chairs of the European Parliament delegation to COP17, Stefan Köhler and César Luena.
The keynote speaker was Ambassador Mher Margaryan, Special Envoy of the Armenian Presidency of COP17, who presented the Presidency's priorities and preparatory work for the conference, which will take place in Yerevan. Margaryan also touched upon deepening cooperation between Armenia and the European Union, emphasizing the EU's important role in biodiversity financing and in integrating biodiversity issues into economic and investment decision-making.
Discussions focused on biodiversity resource mobilization, monitoring, and international cooperation to address capacity gaps.
Participants welcomed Armenia's preparations for COP17 and its inclusive engagement with Parties and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of Europe's continued engagement for a successful conference in Yerevan.
