The Russian Security Council: Yerevan faces potential disappointment if it chooses American rather than Russian security guarantees

ArmInfo. Yerevan faces potential disappointment if it chooses American over Russian security guarantees. According to RIA Novosti, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Oleg Salyukov stated this.

He recalled that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regularly states that he would not object to Armenia being expelled from the CSTO. Russia, according to Salyukov, has repeatedly proven in the 21st century that, provided mutual agreements are observed, it is a guarantor of security for the organization's member countries. "However, if Yerevan chooses American security guarantees, it will definitely face possible disappointment with the results," Salyukov said.

According to him, the Armenian armed forces are currently 90% equipped with Russian weapons and possess the most modern Russian weapons systems, including Iskander operational-tactical missile systems, TOR-M2 air defense systems, Su-30SM aircraft, and advanced armored vehicles. The majority of the Armenian armed forces' officer corps are graduates of Soviet and Russian military academies, the Russian general added.
