ArmInfo. From September 10th to 13th, the traditional Stepan Sargsyan International Freestyle Wrestling Tournament will be held in Yerevan. AMD 18.483 million will be allocated for its implementation by the decision of the RA government dated September 3rd.
The justification for the government's decision notes that freestyle wrestling has achieved great success in recent years: Arsen Harutyunyan and Arman Andreasyan became European Champions in 2024, Levik Mikaelyan and Sarkiis Begoyan won the 2025 European Junior and Youth Championships. The Armenian National Team also includes prize winners among adults, youths, and juniors. Taking into account all these circumstances, as well as the traditions of the International Wrestling Federation, proposed holding an international freestyle wrestling tournament in Armenia dedicated to Stepan Sargsyan.
Representatives from 15 countries and 181 participants are expected to participate. Hosting an international tournament plays an important role in the development and popularization of this sport, which will further enhance Armenia's recognition as a leading country on the international sports scene, enhance the country's sporting prestige, and strengthen ties between Armenia and the diaspora. At the same time, this will contribute to the development of cultural values and tourism, including the restoration of hotels, cultural centers, and sports facilities, which in turn will impact the country's economic development.
