ArmInfo. On August 27, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia discussed a package of bills amending the Law "On the Structure and Activities of the Government" and related laws.
RA Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan noted that it is proposed to rename three ministries and revise their functions. The goal is to modernize the public administration system, aligning it with the government's public policy and Armenia's development priorities.
In particular, it is proposed to rename the Ministry of High-Tech Industry to the Ministry of High-Tech Industry and Artificial Intelligence. According to the minister, the current law already includes the implementation and development of artificial intelligence within the ministry's responsibilities, along with cybersecurity, cloud solutions, the digital economy, information technology, and other areas. Various government initiatives are being implemented in the area of artificial intelligence.
It is also proposed to rename the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to the Ministry of Labor and Welfare. Srbuhi Galyan noted that the new name emphasizes the state's primary goal-not only responding to social problems but also continuously improving the well-being of individuals and families. According to her, well-being is not a separate area, but an end result that the policies of the Ministry and the entire government should serve. The Ministry's policies will be more focused on promoting employment, supporting families, developing children, promoting active longevity, and creating opportunities for a dignified life for every citizen.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be renamed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The goal of the changes is to more effectively combine foreign policy and economic cooperation. It was noted that the priorities of the Republic of Armenia's foreign economic policy, the expansion of international economic cooperation, and development in international trade require that the functions and name of the Ministry fully reflect the political priority and importance of this area.
