Tbilisi. On Monday, June 9, the Georgian Ambassador to Turkey
Tariel Lebanidze will visit the Foreign Ministry of Turkey to get explanations,
concerning a visit of Turkish MP to the territory of Abkhazia, uncontrolled by
Official Tbilisi, the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani
briefed journalists on Monday.
"We have summoned the Turkish
Ambassador to Georgia (to MFA) and will demand from him corresponding
explanations. Besides, our Ambassador in Ankara will take corresponding diplomatic steps and will visit
the Turkish Foreign Ministry today and demand relevant explanations",
Zalkaliani said at the briefing.
He noted that Turkey was Georgia's partner
that's why actions of this country's MPs caused the Georgian side's surprise.
"Turkey
is our partner, our friend and our neighboring country that's why we were
surprised with the deputies' visit. It is known that Turkey recognizes
Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. As far a s we know, these
deputies represent one of Turkish regions, namely, Sakarya, which has been
populated with ethnic Abkhazes. We think their (MPs) interest to Abkhazia was
conditioned by this fact, though, we expected it would be coordinated with
Georgian authorities. We will discuss this issue with the Turkish Ambassador
and I am sure they will give correct explanations", Zalkaliani added.
