Tbilisi. Deputy Foreign Minister of RF Grigori Karasin and Ambassador of Switzerland to Georgia Gunther Bechler discussed in Moscow prospects of Russian- Georgian relations, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.
"The Swiss diplomat shared assessment of the situation in Georgia. The sides discussed perspectives of Russian-Georgian relations, taking into consideration presidential elections in Georgia in October of the current year, the Swiss side's role in representing Russia's interests in Tbilisi", a statement reads.
Diplomatic relations between RF and Georgia were broken off after Moscow had recognized unilaterally independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Representatives of the new Georgian government, who came to power after the parliamentary elections on October 1, 2012, named normalization of relations with RF to be one of the main priorities of the country's foreign policy.
