Against the background of Kazakhstan's doubts about expediency of Armenia's membership in Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia goes there full speed, an expert of the European Business Association, Hovanes Igityan, said at today's press-conference.
"Nursultan Nazarbayev's statement about Kazakhstan's leaving Eurasian Economic Union, if the membership in the Union will threat sovereignty and interests of the country, has two logically backed reasons. First, in such a way, president of Kazakhstan has demonstrated his non-admission of Russia's actions regarding Ukraine. Secondly, he is concerned about the Western sanctions against Russia, Kazakhstan's partner in the EEU", - Igityan said.
He thinks that Kazakhstan does not need Ukraine as much as Russia does. And today the sanctions against Moscow have been damaging much the developing Kazakh economy. The expert emphasized that direct foreign investments in Kazakhstan grow by $2-3 billion every year, and the country has been preparing to holding of the international "Expo-2017. Through developing partnership relations with French companies, at present Kazakhstan produces civil helicopters, and is going to produce electrical trains. Moreover, it has been developing numerous similar projects with Western partners.
"Therefore, Astana's anxiety about the sanctions against Russia and Nazarbayev's reaction are quite justified. But Armenian president's reaction is not justifies, as he said that our country's joining EEU will not damage Armenia. But what about the arrangements with the EU and its member-states?", - he asked.
In his congratulatory speech on Independence Day, on 21 September, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said he declares with utmost responsibility that our membership in the Eurasian Economic Union does not pose a threat to Armenia's political independence anyhow. Such claims are groundless. "As far as Armenia's independence is concerned, it is holy and out of discussion. And we will continue our open and beneficial cooperation with all our colleagues, including the Eurasian Union and its member states, the European Union and its member states, the U.S.A., China, neighboring Georgia and Iran and with all other friendly states",- the president said.
