The Let's Pay 100 AMD movement has just announced that it is starting a timeless action of protest in front of the Yerevan Municipality until its demands are satisfied. The movement participants have also started collecting signatures for the resignation of Henrik Navasardyan, Head of the Municipality's Transport Department.
On July 25 ArmInfo reported with reference to its own source in the Municipality that the decision on resignation of Navasardyan, Head of Yerevantrans Misak Harutyunyan, as well as Artur Gevorgyan, Head of the Public Relations Department, was made along with the decision on return to the former transport fare. However, the Municipality is not going to announce the resignation of these officials at once.
The protesters demand improving the quality of transport services and reducing the fare to 50 AMD within the next 7 days so as to compensate for the Yerevan residents' expenses over the past few days, because the fare was raised illegally. The letter with the picketers' demands has been handed over to the Municipality's employees.
To note, under the public pressure Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan had to suspend his decision on the public transport fare rise on July 25. He stressed that special tariffs will be set for the vulnerable social groups. This will take the Municipality a year, but before that the former transport fare will be in force, Margaryan said.
