Social Democratic Party Hnchakian will not join the March 1 rally by the Armenian National Congress, Leader of SDP Hnchakian Narek Galstyan said in response to ArmInfo's question, Thursday.
He said that his party and ANC had some discrepancies in 2009. "They betrayed us, so we do not think it necessary joining their rally on 1 March," he said. The politician said that together with his party-men he will visit the Myasnikyan Monument to pay tribute to the victims of the March 1 2008 incidents. Galstyan believes that the upcoming rally will not lead to any changes in the political field of Armenia, as ANC lacks authority to make a state coup.
"The rally will be large-scale, due to the growing public discontent and not ANC's image," he said. Galstyan is sure that passions grow high and the revolt is inevitable unless the country's leadership comes to senses.
The ANC started organizing rallies in Yerevan on Feb 20 2008 protesting against the presidential election of 2008. Post-election unrest and clashes with police on March 1 2008 resulted in 10 deaths and over 200 wounded. Those responsible for the tragedy have not been revealed yet. Dozens of people were arrested after March 1 charged with organization of mass disorders.
